Personal Finance (Not Investing) • At what point would you consider dropping the personal umbrella insurance

If my premium jumped by 40% I would find another insurerer versus dropping coverage.
I find I need to jump insurers every 3 to 5 years. I end up rotating back to prior ones.
Shopping around isn't practical in my case. Umbrella is tied to Auto. I do believe I get a good discount by having both auto and home with the same insurer. I also feel like I would be abandoning my agent, whose long-time relationship made him my go-to guy for all auto-related concerns. For example, he would actually tell me when my driving record was pulled by the insurer so that I didn't have to worry about (not that I would be reckless) receiving traffic tickets in the ensuing years.
The idea that you are getting a better rate by being bundled may or may not be true anymore. We shop our insurance every year and it isn't always true. We sometimes find we could save a little by splitting home and auto. We do not go that route and go with the cheaper option keeping them in one place.

If you aren't willing to leave your agent, then you are right- you either pay the umbrella price or you drop the coverage.
