Step 3 - What does IRS.gov do for me?
I have an IRS.gov account but right now it doesn't show me anything useful. I expected to see some activity based on my employer's withholding, but I have no tax bill, no payment history, etc. If my employer stops withholding taxes, will a bill show up that I can pay, *NO* or will there still be nothing and I'll just make estimated payments based on step 2 *YES*? I assume I'll see my quarterly payments start showing up in the payment history though.*YES*
Step 4 - Preparing my 1040
I use TurboTax since I have a very simple tax situation. With this added complication, my employer's W-2 won't have much/any taxes withheld so I am assuming that TurboTax will ask me if I paid estimated tax and that will take care of it. *You'll have to tell TurboTax that you made estimated payments, and the amounts and dates. They will not prompt you based on the lack of withholding.* Will Pay1040 send me an IRS form of some sort? *NO* Will IRS.gov give me something to enter into turbo tax based on the payment history? *NO* Or do I need to go through a CPA to file my taxes now? *You still have to tell the CPA what payments you made.*
