How about asking them?

That article correctly identifies index investing as a long-term strategy. Some people think they can do better with a short time horizon, and index investing isn't great if you only want to maximize your wealth a year from now. I prefer a combination of cash and a little in index funds for short horizons.

Even if you can't beat index investing in the short term, it can be a fun hobby that pays better than golf. I use a small amount of my portfolio for this type of playing around. I consistently make money so there's no reason to stop.
what is the reason to "use a small amount" when you "consistently make money" ?
Consistently making money means I make one cent or more. Playing golf costs money. Playing the market doesn't cost me anything.

My portfolio is for the long-term. I dump my money into index funds and leave it there, with periodic rebalancing to maintain my AA.
