That was something I definitely calculated when I was looking in 2016, 2022, 2024, and this year when I thought it was going to be a ground mount. How many years of savings to break even with the cost of solar?
Without looking .. one of the highest in the country .. about $0.32 per kWh. It's been higher. I think $0.36 per kWh.
At this time of year I am at my lowest. About 7 kWh per day. When I'm heating with the minisplits going it can be 30+ per day. Once I go solar and don't have to pay for electricity in the form of electric bills all those minisplits will be set up higher and, therefore, more usage from them. Will not be a electricity miser in several other electricity usages also. Hence the getting a system producing 50% more than I am currently using.
But once I switched to a roof mount I never did the calculation. The driving force for me was to release me from my electricity miser behavior and to have control over my electric costs for the rest of my life.
