First of all, I am shocked nobody has warned you that there will be major tax consequences on shifting a $1.6m portfolio from whatever Fidelity management has going on to whatever index funds you select. If they're tax loss harvesting for your mom, then it's in a taxable account.Please let me know flaws in this potential strategy.

You could end up costing your mom a lot more than $8k/yr if you liquidate her positions willy nilly and move her into a concentrated position.The strategy that I seem to gravitate towards with my own personal investing is investing in index/mutual funds that follow the major markets; namely the Nasdaq and S&P 500 (including one that follows the Mag Seven)
