I think you're mainly making Clemback's point. It's much harder for them to stuff bad prices down people's throats exactly because it's so easy now for consumers to get good generic mode/year/good condition car values, as is relevant to a total loss payout. Haggling over all the little detail differences in various real cars' conditions v the generic price, with a car dealer, is a little different. Though I agree to check with those easily available sources to be sure the insurance offer is reasonable. And when it comes down the last few $100 it's always subjective what's a good or bad price on a car.I disagree, and think this depends heavily on your insurance company and area. Trust but verify.
