I’d certainly be looking into ACA coverage and learn how the income levels affect the various plan levels and premium subsidies.
When my wife and I were in your situation about 10 years back we knew little about the ACA insurance and were very surprised how it worked when we did a deep dive into it.
We found the Silver level plans to be the sweet spot and because our income was so low at the time we got the extra cost reductions, 0 deductible and extremely low copayments. The insurance we took was much better than the employer provided plan we had previously and that was a good plan.
I’m not sure how much the subsidies and cost savings have changed since then or if you will be able to keep your income at the low levels we did but as I said don’t dismiss ACA coverage before learning about it.
This forum and another I can’t recall the name of right had some great advice on ACA coverage, the KFF site helped too.
You can see plans and cost with subsidies on the HealthCare.gov site without creating an account…
Click on See Topics then Find out if you’ll save. Enter your state, then number of people and choose the income range. On the next page you’ll see a link that says Preview Plans click it and enter your ZIP. If you live in a state with its own exchange then you’ll have to look on it instead.
