First, your parents would have to meet the criteria to enter assisted living. Have to be able to do several activities of daily living (ADL's) like dressing and eating independently.

I think you meant that the criteria included NOT being able to do <a specific number> of daily living activities.

But as previously mentioned by several, at least at some facilities, one does *not* need be unable to do that.
Not by the facility, at least.
Whether an insurer might require it for cost to be covered, that's probably different and *would* be necessary.
