Brand new i4 (released in 2023?) versus a nearly twenty year old V6. Assuming we’re talking about the engine options in the Grand Highlander.I thought the 4 cylinder turbos make a lot more low end torque than the v6? This is the V6 from the highlander and the new I4 from the grand highlander (and likely to the normal highlander post refresh)Four cylinder engines are great in light vehicles, like small sedans or hatchbacks. The new turbo 4 in the lexus RX and Highlanders (probably more) get the same mileage as the best 6 cylinder engine probably ever made but Turbo has 50% less emissions. [Unnecessary comment removed by moderator oldcomputerguy]If you haven't driven one of the modern turbo 4s, they are pretty smooth. Generally better gas mileage, and they have tons of acceleration. There's a reason automakers are doing away with old V6s. If you're used to old 4 cylinder engines, these are a lot different.
In something that weighs 1600+ kg, the torque from a six cylinder engine will make a real difference.
Gasoline engine — 2.4-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged ; 265 hp @ 6000 rpm, 310 lb.-ft. @ 1700-3600 rpm
2022 3.5-liter V6 - 295 hp @ 6600 rpm, 263 lb-ft @ 4700 rpm.
The turbo 4 has a 0-60 in 8 seconds and the older v6 had a 7.2 second time on the regular highlander model. Personally I am going to hybrid for mpg and electric motor torque/response time
Go hybrid or switch to a brand that offers a modern six or eight cylinder engine (BMW).
