I’ll take a transaction notification. Glad to hear it. I check them. Works for me.Seems like I predicted that if Vanguard provided an alert for ACATS transfers, that there would be complaints that Vanguard didn’t do it right. My experience: on 10/15 I initiated an ACAT transfer request at Fidelity to transfer a number of ETF shares from Vanguard.
On 10/17, I received a "vague" email from Vanguard with the subject "Your brokerage transaction confirmation is ready". In the email, there was a "View your confirmation" button to click on. This email looks like any other emails I would receive after each buy/sell transaction within Vanguard and can be easily missed. It would have been nice if the email said something about an ACAT transfer out activity.
Clicking on the "View your confirmation" button did not lead me to the exact event that was being confirmed - I got a page showing a long list of all transactions of all accounts in the current year. The email was dated 10/17 so I guessed maybe I should click on the entry with the 10/17 date. A PDF file got downloaded. Opening the PDF file did show a "Securities transferred" transaction with the correct number of shares. Ah ha so that's what the confirmation was about.
My expectation: The email received on 10/17 could have been more specific that there was a transfer-out of X shares from Vanguard to Fidelity, rather than a generic "Your brokerage transaction confirmation is ready for you to look at" sort of emails. Also, it should be easier to see what the activity was about when following up on the email notification. A text alert would have been nice. Oh well. My end goal is to transfer out all of what can be transferred out.
