For us, we have always used the local BCBS instead of a national plan. We have found this works well for us because they have a local office and in theory, you could go in and talk to them if needed instead of playing phone tag. We have mostly been very happy with coverage and working with them. They do NOT contributed toward our Medicare premiums, so that’s something to consider if that matters to you. It has provided excellent coverage even out of state when we have providers in CA, NY, CO and wherever we travel in the US. This has been very helpful to us. Our family plan covers H, me and our disabled dependent. We like it better than stitching together supplement plans. Also because we have drug coverage via the private BCBS, we qualify for discount programs with drug manufacturers which exclude folks who get Medicare D or Medicaid plans.
