This is really helpful. Thank you! Indirect might the way to go if I decide to go part time.27 hours was one of the standard hour packages HR offered - it might have met the minimum number of hours worked each year that was an internal requirement I don’t know. I was in business development (radar sales); our 30 some member team all charged indirect (overhead). I was retired military and had enough experience my boss and the product team mentioned PT when I wanted to work less. Clearly I wasn’t going to be on a leadership track working PT. Many weeks I worked 40 hours because I didn’t want to leave the money on the table (pay and 401K match) but it was great to look at the clock and know I could leave early anytime I wanted and they trusted me enough to let me do that. Our HR person was also on same schedule. Don’t know if it would be an option for an engineer or PM. I had resigned once for 2 1/2 years so I guess I had nothing to lose to ask if a reduction in hours was possible.
I work for a similar company. How did you arrange to get 27 hours? It seems difficult to do since most jobs are bid and awarded at full FTE level. 25 hours a week seems like an ideal schedule to me. That would give me enough time to pursue non-work related interests as well as be able to spend time with family.
I had a kid in college playing sports for my age 50-53 sabbatical. Great years. I like the saying “having money is being rich, using money to improve our life is prosperity.” I encourage you to think of ways you can use your wealth to lead a prosperous life ( like you are brainstorming).
Good luck!
Love the saying you quoted. It is so true.
Thank you for your service!
