Not surprising, I could see it happening, and it is slightly unsettling seeing how easily it snips through finger-thick tree branches. Not so much of an issue with the longer version as the cutting end is a good ways from the 'trigger'. With the hand-held one, however, you're typically using your free hand to hold/guide what you're cutting so --- yup.Be careful with these. My neighbor cut the tip of her finger off a few months ago using one of them.
The other thought is about battery powered pruning shears/loppers.
OTOH, I use my dad's old table saw and band saw and I still have all of my fingers!
