I hadn't thought of that but the cardboard sounds like a good idea.Biggest risk is probably a broken windshield from letting the bare arms snap back down by accident. I always put a piece of cardboard on the windshield.
The most important thing is just to yank on the newly installed wipers to make sure they won't fall off. Otherwise I'm not seeing a lot of risk involved in attempting to change wiper blades...?
