@JBTX, thanks for doing this! It’s really a challenge helping disabled adults. There are also important distinctions between those who are SSDI and those who get additional benefits but are not income and asset constrained.

A reference I purchased and think MAY be of help for others is “Retire Secure for Parents of a Child with a Disability,” by James Lange (CPA/Attorney) and others. It starts out with the disabled person being a child but she becomes an adult. It has given me some food for thought.

Maybe mention that it can take literally years to get a favorable disability ruling—it did for us. Having retroactive benefits can really make a difference and you can also get retroactive Medicare A&B, which we had no idea was even possible.
In the last section references I did list the Lange book as a reference. I also have the book, but have only read sections.

In the SSI section it does mention the lengthy approval times. My son was about 15 months, and it was a pretty clean first try approval.
