Call them up and start with a compliment. "I always admired your tables with the cherry wood but couldn't afford one. Recently I was lucky in finding a used one for sale. I was wondering what you would recommend ...". (They need to know that you don't know the history. Make that the main point.)I could call the manufacturer and ask, but I feel a bit guilty since I only paid $100 for the set used.Have you called the manufacturer?
The very worst that would happen is that the conversation would be short. What if you inherited it or you were the original purchaser who gave it to a relative and they are now giving it to share with you? Don't worry about the money as someone else already paid what the company wanted. All you are looking for now is maintenance info.
