Personal Consumer Issues • new home base after FIRE

We have not moved and have no plans to move. Moving someplace warmer for the winter means that same place is hotter for the summer. If we ever do move, it will to be closer to family where ever they may end up permanently and will likely have nothing to do with temperature during a particular time of the year.
Lot of wisdom in this short paragraph. If you enjoy where you are and have decent weather for several seasons, staying put is a reasonable option if the overall cost basis is reasonable. It's ideal if you can travel to other destinations for several months during your home location's worst weather months.

We have found extended travel to great weather locations can be done at reasonable cost. Especially if you reserve monthly rentals, if you prepare your own meals (which are often much cheaper and far superior to the slop now served in most restaurants), and if you use your own vehicle for transportation (or jet to places with good walking and cheap public transportation). Making plans, chasing good weather, and exploring new places for weeks and months at a time is a fantastic lifestyle. It's also why we are unlikely to move, and have rejected buying a second home or vacation home. We want maximum flexibility; it's worth a lot. And when we leave, locking the door for the final time and having zero responsibility is pure joy. Affordable transportation and monthly rentals in seasonal locales = a significant lifestyle cheat code for those with the optionality to execute.
This is a great post & id love to learn more about where you’ve been and your experiences. This is likely our path too in a few short years hopefully.
