A complicated decision for sure. I haven't looked into that aspect yet, though I probably should. Do you have good option for a private facility?
We tried a facility in the DFW area. Overall really nice set up. Approaching $5k per month. Nice cabins, nice facility, neighborhood feel. We were going to try for a couple of months. Our son was pretty excited.

Turned out the timing just didn’t work out. We had a winter storm for week where everybody was shut in. Then it turned out one of his roommates was a violent bully and for multiple days was bullying our son, and got several others to follow him. Our son wanted out, so we pulled him out after few weeks.

I suspect we could have worked through it if our plan was more long term. I don’t blame the facility at all. Dealing with diverse disabilities is hard. I wouldn’t hesitate to try again, except for the financial aspects. It may be harder now as our son has recently become more difficult with his own behavioral issues, and I’m not confident he would be allowed to stay long term.

We are playing the long game. Inhis early 20’s he doesn’t seem to be ready for that yet.
