The diversity of replies tells me there is no particular prudent policy bc the costs and needs of uni/tuition for multiple kids over a decade into the future is thoroughly unpredictable. Some people are fine having an extra 100 grand to kick around to others whereas other people understand it as lost money - has anyone given so much money without having to? The best option appears to be to find a threshold estimate of comfortable and allow the funds to achieve a lionshare of that number enough years ahead of time to appreciate to that figure.
