Investing - Theory, News & General • 3% inflation rate seems to be just a "feel good number"

About 50 years ago, fans of Bruce Springsteen paid as little as $8, or $44 adjusted for inflation, to see him perform on his Born to Run tour. Costs rapidly rose over the next few decades.
In 1975, Bruce was a relative unknown 26 year old musician. Born to Run was released in August of that year, the beginning of his breakout. Comparing that ticket to the cost of seeing him now, as a world-renowned household name, it not a good comparison.

How much did it cost to see Frank Sinatra or Elvis in 1975? That is a better comparison.

Many of the responses on inflation threads are full of anecdotal stories and bad comparisons.

You can definitely see relatively unknown 26 year old artists in every town in America right now for $44, or less.
