Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Medicare Part D Open Enrollment: Wellcare or Humana

+1 on the formulary risk. I originally signed up for the $0 WellCare plan based on my current prescriptions but when my doctor added Repatha, WellCare would be about $8,000/yr and Humana was $2,000 /yr. Luckily, open enrollment was still open to switch.
I compare the drug plans each year, even if I don't take any meds at that time. I also throw in possible meds I might take the following year and choose a plan that covers my future meds too.

Of course, you can't predict everything as I ended up with an unexpected condition this year that required me to pay for a $1,200 med taken for a few weeks. But the drug plan paid the remaining cost, so it still saved me some money.
