Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Earthquake insurance in California

You get quoted separately for fire insurance? Does regular insurance not cover damage from wildfires? My insurance has been going up because of wildfire risk going up, I thought.

I'm in the greater Sacramento area which is not known for being seismically active, but after feeling tremors from earthquakes in Reno, I decided to get it. It is sold separately by the CEA as a rider and I only pay $150 or so. Most of the folks I know in the Bay Area do not carry earthquake insurance.

Flood insurance is also sold as a separated rider and I don't get that because I'm at an elevation. Small damage from water is covered, but major flooding is not.
