Its always an option. It is just a matter of whether you want to deal the drama when Mom and Dad aren't willing to foot the bill for all the "necessary" expenses.We are in the same boat. Daughter just got engaged. Given the size of our families, friend groups, etc. on both sides, this will likely be at least a 200+ person affair. I'm hoping to get out at around $75k and not sure yet what the groom's parents will contribute. I have a few friends in similar boats who spent more than $100k recently so I'm a little worried. We have this money put aside and it's part of our plan so that's not a huge issue. I would gladly offer them $ for house downpayment, etc. in lieu of the big wedding, but I'm afraid that's not going to be an option.
