Ultimately your spouse gets to decide how to invest their $. But a couple may want to manage their combined portfolio as one in order to maintain an overall asset allocation, use tax efficient fund placement, etc.
For spouse and I, we manage our accounts as one combined portfolio. our Roth accounts are invested 100% equity as Roth accounts grow tax free. New Roth contributions are invested immediately in equities and we don’t try to time the market by holding cash in Roth to invest on a future market dip. We hold our fixed income such money market funds in our tax deferred accounts for tax efficiency. This BH wiki page may be helpful:
