Yes, both my Social Security payments (ex-U.S. citizen) and my husband's (never a U.S. citizen or green card holder, claimed only on my record) began flowing in July 2025. Monthly payments have been smooth ever since. This was my expectation.Vogatrice, did you ever get an update? I was researching Social Security eligibility for non-citizens living abroad, and there’s very little first-hand information from the last year. It would be great to hear how your case turned out.
One glitch, though. My back payment to January arrived with the first payment. His back payment has never arrived, though his My Social Security account claims it has been paid. I have followed up several times, both with the Baltimore office that processed the claims and the U.S. consulate office in Rome, to no avail. I assume they will eventually dig themselves out after the shutdown and the staffing disasters, but I don't think there's anything else I can do to push it along. It's not a life-changing amount of money but an irritant, since it's likely it will be reported as income and Italian tax will be due on funds never received.
