If headroom is a concern, the Premium Crosstrek works well as it doesn't come with a sunroof. Versions like the limited have a sunroof and take up more headroom space.
I've owned over a dozen Subarus and driven them over 200k miles and have yet to ever have one with an oil leak, so I'm not sure where that concern comes from.
The oil consumption issue is well known with many cars for 2 reasons. CAFE standards that pushed auto makers to go to 0W 20 oil and marketing pressure to extend oil change intervals higher. If you were to list the cars who have had reported oil consumption issues, that list is very long. Subaru became well known because they actually did something about it. They would change your oil for free and have you come back in 1200 miles. If the oil was down over 10 ounces, they would replace the long block (the major part of the engine). As a comparison, Hyundai says that burning 32 ounces in 1000 miles is normal. So while you're driving your Hyundai merrily down the street belching oil smoke, you can point to a Subaru and say "oil burner" as your car uses as much oil as a 2 cycle motorcycle.
We currently have 4 Subarus in our family. 2 with CVTs, 2 with manuals, 2 with port injection, 2 with direct injection, 1 FB20, 2 FB25, 1 EJ257. All run quite well and none have had any major problems. The most miles on these presently is right about 100k.
To the OP, congratulations on the purchase. If you wish to get the Subaru Gold extended warranty, you can buy it from any dealer in your state. It used to be that you could buy from any dealer and Mastria Subaru in Massachusetts was well known to sell them cheaper than anyone else. Either Subaru of America or Subaru of New England cracked down and not the first question is if you live in Mass. My son has one of these on his 2020 STi. Don't buy any aftermarket warranty as those companies regularly go out of business to avoid paying.
