Investing - Theory, News & General • Can anyone explain direct indexing?

Was this broad portfolio a basket of stocks or something consolidated like an ETF? If the end state is VOO or an ETF from any family, I would consider it.
I mentioned 40 stocks. This was back in the 90s when taxes, trading costs, and computation costs were all higher.

I believe that the current state-of-the-art has you ending with a broader mix of stocks.

No, you would not end up with a single bundle like a ETF. Not sure why. In theory direct indexing always beats a funds.
