Buy at Ikea. That’s what I do.DW and I are looking for a new mattress, preferably king sized, and soft. We visited a mattress store today, and the experience reminded me of car shopping — which is something else I don’t do often. The salesman said “we can look at the one you asked about after I show you our most popular model, which is 2x the price of the one you wanted to look at. You should look at these others too, also much more expensive than the one you asked about. Etc.
Does anyone have tips or techniques for doing this better than walking into a store, taking the salesman’s advice, being upsold on different things, and walking out with $10k less money and an equivalently sized case of buyers remorse?
I feel like identifying a mattress we like and emailing different mattress stores for a best out the door price might work. Possibly not. Hopefully someone here has some useful wisdom and experience.
