I assume that the proposal ring is bigger and brighter to impress social media,I believe some jewelers will provide you with a "proposal" ring that is fully returnable - and then you and your fiancee go to the jeweler and have the fun of finding the stones and designing the engagement ring together.
and the actual engagement ring is more real.
Probably not bigger. But if a person wants to surprise someone with a proposal and wants to have a ring at the moment, it can be very hard to guess what kind of ring the proposee might like. And who wants to be stuck with a mistake on something like that!
To have something fully returnable is a great idea, and a blessing to all concerned.
(Full disclosure and I said above, I was not a fan of the setting of the ring my husband surprised me with. Loved the stone, not the setting. Not the end of the world but I had specific likes with jewelry which he did not know could matter to me for something I would be wearing every day.)
Proposers - keep your options open ring-purchase-wise so if there is some disappointment, you know it can be easily dealt with.
And those "try 'em all" kits - what an amazing idea!
Did the OP ever check back in after getting all this good advice?
I looked but did not see him!
