And now the December number is out and it is 324.054, lower than the number I said above was needed to keep the 2028 0% assumption at $111,000 / $222,000. The Finance Buff's website is already updated and agrees with my spreadsheet that the 2028 0% assumption had dropped to $110,000 / $220,000 (the 3% assumption remains at $115,000 / $230,000).I have my own spreadsheet that does the same 0% and 3% assumption calculations that thefinancebuff website does. Using that, for 2028, I currently have:
0% assumption: $111,000 single / $222,000 joint
3% assumption: $115,000 single / $230,000 joint
The single number is rounded to the nearest thousand and then doubled for joint. Due to the Nov 2025 CPI-U going down from the previous Sep 2025 number (there was no Oct 2025 number), my unrounded 2028 number is actually lower than the unrounded 2027 number and if the Dec 2025 number goes down further, could drop the 0% assumption to $110,000 / $220,000 (the Nov 2025 CPI-U was 324.122, if it Dec is 324.063 or less, my 2028 0% assumption gives $110,000 / $220,000).
