"Hijack", on Apple TV+, is an airplane hijack drama not worth watching, IMO.
Well shot, good cast, but really bad writing that's trying to stretch a two-hour movie of the week into 8 hours of tepid drama. The main character, played by Idris Elba, does things that make no sense. There are five or six major plot holes. Either the writers don't know the subject matter they are working with, or they just don't respect their audience. I won't detail the holes, except to say that I can't imagine the folks behind the hijack putting together an operation of this scope and complexity.
This is a well-worn genre. IMDb even has a section labelled "Airplane and hijacking movies". Save yourself some time, and just watch Air Force One or Executive Decision or Passenger 57 or even Turbulence. Snakes on a Plane is good, too. This even reminds me of that staple of 70s late-night TV, Airport from 1970, with Dean Martin and the great Jessie Royce Landis. Where's Helen Hayes when we need her?
