Investing - Theory, News & General • New Vanguard Security Code Requirement [2FA: Two-factor authentication]

The best is email for code, like TreasuryDirect does. My bank offers email or phone, that is good, too. Only one device in the game, if you want that. And I do.

I do not like to see Phones and Mobile Apps in this context. Let them do Robinhood and similar nonsense, I want to be isolated from that.
I am happy that Vanguard does NOT do Bitcoin, and I am upset that Fidelity does.
"Only one device in the game" is the antithesis of 2FA. Here's the way Vanguard puts it;

Why can't I get a security code via email?

Email phishing scams can place your personal information at serious risk. Text messages and phone calls provide greater security, and your email providers may be subject to cyberattacks that can compromise personal data on a large scale.
I am a professional in these fields, and the 'greater security' (without giving exact technical details) myth is just that. TreasuryDirect and ALL other
institutions I deal with know that a bit better than little Vanguard as well, which just does not want to make the additional effort. I always ask the
Vanguard 'representatives' about details regarding that very claim and then listen to 'uh oh ...'.
And who falls victim to pishing scams? There is no 'security' cure for that ...
You're a "professional" in this field and you don't know the fix for phishing scams? :confused
