We are on the opposite side. All winter long (near Boston) we barely have heat; the cleaners sometimes literally wear coats. I can’t sleep when the bedroom is hot, so all summer long we have it crazy frosty in the house. The “frugal” thing we did is install geothermal (ground source heat pump) so it is close to free after the initial outlay.However, on the other end I need heat. Even now my feet are on a foot warming pad. So while I keep telling myself I should shut off my mini-splits for heat purposes ......... I still have not. Last year I shut off the one in the living room in mid-March and the one in this bedroom in mid-April.
