And to a prior comment here about equivalent of $1/gallon of gas - Sales people will tell you anything to make you feel good about your purchase.
There's no fuel savings if you compare a highly efficient hybrid vs charging from the grid or supercharger. Small savings if home charging off 100% solar.
I pay about 12cents / kWh. Gas by me is $3.50/gal. So instead of a gallon of gas, I can get 350/12 = 29.2 kWh. My EV averages 3.4 miles / kWh. 29.2 * 3.4 = 99 miles per "gallon". No SUV hybrids come anywhere close to that.

I haven't heard about $1/gallon of gas, but that would be about 99/3.5 = 28.3 mpg -- which isn't bad for an SUV. In comparison, my midsize ICE SUV averages 16 mpg.
That's why I said "if you compare a highly efficient hybrid". Like a Prius for example. 55-60mpg plus our electricity costs much more here. So I guess that's just my personal case. But I don't spend more than $700 a year on fuel for 11,000 miles driving. Maybe one day the math will work for me!
I think Priuses and entry-level EVs cost about the same. Add the availability of used EVs and Prius to the mix, and EVs are probably cheaper overall. The primary advantage of the Prius seems to be for someone who would need to do a lot of supercharging and lives in an area with high electricity costs and doesn't have solar panels. I love the new Prius as a rental car, but I wouldn't buy it over an EV since I don't drive very much.
I'd be much more comfortable buying a 10 year old Prius vs a 10 year old EV that may need a new $15k battery soon.

The biggest hurdle to going EV for most people is probably upgrading their home electrical and installing the charger. That's very costly. Add to that, range is half of a Prius. Also EVs like Tesla are more costly to insure, burn through tires faster, and lastly it's quality control/reliability.
