You can definitely stop using him after the extension was filed.

If he filed an extension he's probably done nothing.

You can tell him that because of the poor service you do not expect to be billed.

If he does bill you it will be up to you if you want to pay the bill.
I doubt the nothing done comment. CPAs here will generally do at least a high level worst case pass to ensure client won’t owe.

OP can certainly fire but CPA can certainly charge for what has been done to date. Only fair Whether OP is being jerk depends on facts not known. But if only communication has been email I would always call. I don’t understand the idea of never speaking to understand the situation
