update: I connected the laptop to the mini to the laptop and finder showed it present but the contents I confirmed are actually from the laptop
To repeat,the recovery assistant only tells me there is no volume to recover to.
Hard drives and external drives enabled in Finder, but they do not show on the list.
I apologize, but I'm going to be slow in responding because I am an elderly fresh out of rehab and my condition is such that I have to rest for several minutes after every couple minutes of work.
I think all of you, sincerely for your input and efforts.
If I cannot find a solution, I suppose I will take it to the Best Buy bar as we have no genius bar here.
