The above group of volunteers (usually retired architects or historians) run by SF Library has 80 different tours, every one that we have been on has been great. Some examples are Gold Rush, Chinatown, North Beach, Victorian, Haight Ashbury, Golden Gate Park, Nob Hill and Art Deco. Do yourselves a favor and do a couple of these walking tours instead of driving all over. You can experience beautiful SF apart from tourist areas.

Drive up to Twin Peaks for a great view of the city. Another great 360 degree view of the city is from on top of the garage of the the North Beach police station (surprising, but great).

BTW you can take Bart Metro to the UC Berkeley campus
