I am following this. It's interesting. I am investing for dividends because my capital gains are taxed in Portugal, whereas dividends are not as an NHR tax resident.
Most countries have corporation tax - 30% in Australia is higher than normal but not off the charts. Below is what Google Gemini told me.
CountryCorporate Tax Rate
Colombia35%
Japan30.12%
Mexico30.00%
Australia30.00%
Chile27.50%
New Zealand28.00%
Germany31.50%
Italy28.00%
France25.80%
Canada26.10%
Korea25.00%
Austria25.00%
Belgium29.50%
Netherlands25.80%
Denmark22.00%
Sweden20.60%
Finland24.00%
United States21.00%
Ireland12.50%
Czech Republic19.00%
Poland19.00%
Portugal19.00%
Slovenia19.00%
Estonia20.00%
Hungary9.50%
United Kingdom19.00%
I am only considering investing in companies countries that don't withhold taxes on dividends, so that is UK, Singapore, and (maybe) Australia. I can't stomach investing in Hungary because of their stance on Russia/Putin.
Other countries that don't withhold tax include
Hong Kong
Bahrain
Bermuda
British Virgin Islands (BVI)
Cayman Islands
Isle of Man
Ireland
but for most of these are black listed by Portugal as tax havens and therefore are subject punititve taxation in Pt.
Anyone else here with experienced on long term dividend orientated investment as a NHR tax resident in Portugal welcome to comment.
