I agree with the posts above and basically think that deterrent would be the best option. Our house always looks like someone is in there which hopefully deter opportunistic robber.
- Our outside lights (porch light, garage door, decorative spot lights) are fully automated (smart plugs + Alexa routine + Hue light for porch spot light + Dust-dawn light sensor light).
- floor light by window with smart plugs scheduled to turn on and off at certain time
- smart speaker that plays radio every morning (which also serve as our alarm). Don't know how audible this is from outside though.
- I put extra sirens with my alarm system. I want as loud as sirens as possible if there's a break in to scare the them rather than having to confront them
- Visible several outdoor cameras (doorbell, above garage door, by the fence)
