Last night I wanted to get a different credit card so I went online on all 3 agencies and did a temporary “thaw”. You put the day you want it unfrozen and then put the day you want it refrozen. You don’t have to go back and refreeze. It took me about 3 minutes total to unfreeze / thaw all 3 agencies.Thank you for the responses. My father is 90 and it is difficult for him to get around. I wish I was informed of this hoop. I could have jumped through it prior to the bank meeting. We were told they only needed my id. Will definitely check if I can get by with just unfreezing one agency. My brother is also a candidate to be added so that may be easiest solution.
I had an easy experience very much like this one, following the strategy DH had used about a year earlier.
I applied for another charge card for the sign up bonus points. I knew they would do a credit check, and mine were frozen.
Sure enough, I got a semi-rejection letter, stating they had been unable to check my credit, and would I please call. I called to find out which credit agency they used. Upon being told, I thanked them and told them I'd call back when it was unfrozen.
I called that one agency to unfreeze that one credit/score, and then called the charge card company again.
I told them to go ahead and check my credit at <I'm forgetting which agency it was>. They put me on hold for perhaps 2 minutes (which, I admit, can feel like a long time when on "hold").
The rep came back on the phone, thanked me, and told me I had just been approved.
I called that one agency back, and had my credit frozen again.
It was easy and fast.
My one credit score at one single credit agency was "unfrozen" for much less than an hour.
