Investing - Theory, News & General • I Bonds Mega Thread (I Bond Heads Rejoice!)

For folks with I Bonds in minor's name and after the minor turns 18, I have a data point to share.

When kid turned to 18 last August, she created an account for me to transfer the bonds. Her new account was put on hold for some reason. Form 5444 with notarized signature was needed to lift the hold. That was a bit inconvenience; anyway the letter was mailed in late August.

Guess what? An email was delivered to her today informing the hold was lifted. In between there was no comm. That was a solid 10 month processing time!
Another good reason to leave TD behind and never look back. The horror stories about dealing with them after the death of a loved one were enough to have me liquidate all I Bonds and simplify my investments. Having settled several estates, I understand the frustration that incompetence and lack of communication from financial institutions during that stressful time can add to an already complex process. TD is the worst of the worst and thus taken out of the equation completely.
