Personal Consumer Issues • Mac duplicate file finder software and its security

I once wrote a shell script on Linux to do this, so the same could be done on a Mac. You don't need an app. Maybe Google around for a script that does what you want.

(The script is about three lines. Use 'find' to enumerate through the files, 'md5sum' to create unique identifiers, and then 'sort' to pull out duplicates.)
When I searched bogleheads before posting my question, I saw that you’d recommended this before. I immediately like it, but got stuck on the “use a script” part. A script? Uhh, I wouldn’t know how to start … like, where is the “script” button? So, I’m behind.

I like the challenge though, so I’m excited about googling it and learning something new.

It seems like the most reliable way for me to accomplish this project without accidentally releasing all my files onto the dark web.

Thanks, Specks
