Over the weekend, we had three celebrities pass away:
* Shannen Doherty — 50s— cancer
* Richard Simmons — 70s — cardiac arrest
* Dr Ruth —90s — natural causes?
Only one made it to their 90s. All had significant assets versus the median population.
The first wasn’t old enough to withdraw from tax deferred without penalty. The second if they waited to 70 to claim social security, they received benefits for less than a decade. The only winner was Dr Ruth.
Is a 30 year retirement unrealistic? How long is realistic?
It's weird, but most of the people I know who died young were very fit or even athletic (often from cancer, but also from accidents). But the people who lived to old age were obese, sedentary, heavy smokers, etc. Maybe it's just me. I wonder if anyone else has had similar experience.
