Personal Investments • How to get to the finish line?

Not looking for a portfolio review, but how did others finish out the last decade before retirement? Anything you “got in order” before your anticipated departure from the workforce? I have read various articles about this topic, but most are far from helpful instead advertising some product or another. My biggest point of conflict right now is bridging age 61 to when I take SS. ...
OP, what is your present age? Much depends on whether it's a 45 year old entering the decade before retiring at 55, or a 60 year old entering such decade before retiring at 70... and anything in between. Much also depends on job security; namely, does the pre-retirement phase plausibly include a lengthy period of unemployment?

You will get, and have already gotten, much advice and rumination about reaching 25X or 33X or __?__X of annual expenses. This is sensible, for persons wondering about how to replace earned-income and how to retain some lifestyle. If you're along this journey, then likely the final decade before retirement will feature aggressive savings. It's less relevant to those well beyond such thresholds. Let's suppose that Joe Worker is sitting at 100X. Exhortations to maximize savings in the final years before retirement, would be - shall we agree? - trite. Instead, Joe might wonder about the psychology of retirement. How committed is he, to working? Does work define him? Is he amassing an alternative self-definition, outside of work? If working-life is stagnating or even reversing, ought Joe to retire early, turning the final decade into a final 3 years?

Maybe our hero Joe, has been living in a locale for decades, for career reasons... and upon retiring, he wishes to relocate. OK, where? How to explore? What are the criteria?

In other words, this final-decade is a time for self-reflection. Perhaps such philosophizing has been long suppressed, as we delved into career and investment and maybe domestic commitments. These various things largely resolved (one supposes), what then?
