Are you sure your able to use an actual machine? There are reasons BYOD companies use virtual/remote machines.... If it's a virtual then it's not going to matter much what is host machine is running, so pick you preference.
It should be, and I know a few other employees in my position have work-issued laptops. It's a small-ish company, and they use virtual desktops for cost savings since there is only an outside IT vendor. It's easier for the outside IT company to manage, they can deal with turnover better, and its cheaper to have thin clients at the desks, rather than a bunch of tower computers that require an in-house IT team to support and fix.

Right now I've been doing this on my personal MacBook Air, but the idea would be to have them install office and chrome and all of the plugins we use on a windows laptop that I use exclusively for work. That way (1) I'm not using my own machine, and (2) it works better since I'm not dealing with Remote Desktop.
