Just had a 3 head mini split system installed last month.
Multiple quotes was helpful. Large price spread (15k-50k), different installation approaches.
We really cared about aesthetics, so ended up sacrificing some closet spaces to get most the equipment hidden. Just vent covers visible, not the big, plastic mini split head (though one installer tried to convince us those are attractive). Got Samsung slim line, but I think other manufacturers also have systems that are similarly hidden.
Some installers recommended we wait until a newer, environmentally friendly refrigerant is mandated in the US next year. Didn’t research it much, but might be a consideration.
Paid a bit extra to hook up to Nest thermostats. Seems like these systems are wifi/apps/remotes by default.
We had electric baseboard heat, no A/C before this. We opted to keep the baseboards for now until we see how winter goes.
