Agree 100% I would fix it, I'm very particular about my things especially when new. Once my car gets 5+ years old stuff like a shopping cart ding in the door hurts, but I learn to live with it at that point. No, no plan to sell and our last cars were all 20+ years old, just noting that it is not noticeable from far away but it is up close and that I see no reason NOT to fix something that objectively affects the value of the car even if not subjectively so much.Do you plan to get rid of the vehicle before most of its useful life is used up? I drive my cars for 10+ years so resale is never a concern of mine. If there's a few thousand left for trade in when I'm ready for a new car it's just a bonus.
As for your other points, fair enough and I'll keep a lookout for transmission issues.
I did file a comprehensive for airborne debris on the highway that struck and damaged my vehicle (mostly cosmetic) and same outcome... no insurance increase and kept my accident forgiveness. I think it was around $4-5k in repairs and my insurance (USAA) indeed kept their word about no increase.
