With a 24" iMac and a MacBook Air, you can use Universal Control. It works great. You can control both computers with one keyboard/mouse. You can use it with two screens, but you have two separate processors, etc.My current setup is iMac + M2 MacBook Air. The iMac will need to be replaced soon. Most of my work is at my desk, though occasionally I'll take the MacBook Air when I travel or work remote.
iMacs only come in 24" now, which is relatively small. With an external monitor, you lose a lot of the built in functionality like speakers and webcam, which means a lot more cords and more things to buy/break.
Do you prefer laptop + monitor or an all-in-one? If so, why?
Using a non Retina display or a monitor not designed for a Mac is not fun.
