My wife became totally disabled when I was still working. She told me to make my health insurance primary and Medicare secondary (she signed up for Medicare after the 2 year waiting period while she was disabled), we did that for 10+ years. In hindsight that might have been a poor decision. Medicare limits what providers can charge (for example, the ER sent us a bill for 20k, Medicare allowed them to charge about 5k) so we might have been better off having her primary insurance Medicare. I would suggest that you do your own research.
