Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Apple Pay: value vs. chip credit card

I don't trust the phone software security (Google or Apple) or the electronics hardware. Nothing is totally safe, but I chose to just reduce the risk.
Not a bad idea.

The convenience of using phones is often overstated. They are fast for some things and not for others. Boarding a plane is definitely slower when people need to authenticate to turn on their phones, open the right app, and maybe even require cell-data or wifi to be working to pull up their boarding pass. And sweating whether they have sufficient charge to last the wait to the ticket agent. Paper tickets or bio-recognition gates are simply faster for that application.

Another application that is annoying now that we don't use cash is buying food from your seat at a baseball game. In a row 30 seats long, it is easy to pass cash through 15 people one direction and peanuts the other direction. A credit card is possible to pass but a little worrying to go through all those hands. A phone? No way am I passing my phone! :)
